Crowns
If your tooth is damaged but not lost, a crown can be used to restore its shape, appearance and function.
A crown is typically placed after a root canal to strength your tooth structure. Crowns can also be used to support large fillings, attach a bridge, or cover discolored or deformed teeth. They can also be placed over dental implants.
Crowns last about five to eight years, and with good oral hygiene, they can last even longer. A crown can help strengthen your teeth and improve the esthetics of your mouth.
Bridges
Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth in your mouth.
On your first visit, we prepare the supporting teeth for the bridge. This is done to make room for the crowns that will fit over the supporting teeth. These crowns serve as holders of the pontic, which is the missing tooth's replacement.
Next, we make an impression of the supporting teeth and insert a temporary dental bridge to protect the supporting teeth as well as the space between them.
On your second visit, the permanent bridge is placed and adjusted to ensure a proper fit. When your crown feels comfortable, your dentist will cement the bridge into place.
